Narromine Online - Rotary Science and Engineering Challenge.
The Rotary Clubs of Dubbo and Narromine, Dubbo Rotaractors have combined to conduct the Western Plains Science and Engineering Challenge on 8/9 April 2010 at Dubbo Sportsworld, Sheraton Road, Dubbo. This next Challenge will be sponsored by the Rotary Club of Dubbo South.
The Challenge is designed, through fun and practical hands-on activities, to inspire young people about the opportunities available in science, technology and engineering. This is a popular program evidenced by past expressions from students and teachers who have participated in past years. Several students have chosen a science, engineering or technology career as a result of the program.
The challenges are compiled by the University of Newcastle, managed and operated by Rotarians and sponsored by the Australian Constructors Association.
Nominations have been sent to schools in the immediate region of Dubbo and schools should complete the nomination forms quickly as only sixteen teams will be accepted for the two days, ie 8 teams each day. The schools year 10 students will compete in one or two events that range from design and build projects to logic, teamwork and task orientated activities. There is no charge to attend but schools have to arrange transport to Dubbo.
Winning schools from each region will be invited to attend a Super Challenge in Newcastle in August 2010.
Year 10 students in 2010 are encouraged to speak with the Head Teacher-Science and encourage your school to attend this great Rotary program. Teams are nominated quickly and last year several schools missed out because of a late nomination.
